About
Based in Dallas, Texas. Writes anywhere.
Eric Diep is a freelance music journalist.
He is also a former co-host and co-producer of The Rap Writers Show, where writers talk about rappers, a.k.a. the podcast that no one asked for.
A hip-hop nerd from the Northwest, he previously held positions as a news writer for BET and an editor at XXL, where he once traveled to 50 Cent’s Connecticut mansion for a G-Unit cover story and interviewed Tony Yayo and Kidd Kidd near a pool. He worked on the 2013 and 2014 XXL Freshman classes, profiling Dizzy Wright, Angel Haze, Troy Ave, and Lil Bibby, respectively.
He was also the music editor at the Dallas Observer, writing two cover stories that intersected the music and hospitality scenes, underscoring the need for live music and cover fees.
His notable bylines include A Boogie wit Da Hoodie’s first interview (Pigeons & Planes), Nolan Presley for Genius’ Secret Weapon engineer column, and a round-up on the impact of Kid Cudi (Complex). He is committed to Asian representation in hip-hop, writing pieces on Rich Brian & 88rising, Kris Wu, Jay Park, Higher Brothers, and Keith Ape.
His prior experience includes interning for RESPECT., VIBE, and Complex, as well as designing for the University of Oregon magazines Ethos and Flux.
He bleeds green and yellow. Go Ducks.
